RHYMES THAT BIND

Rhymes That Bind (RTB) is a program curated by Centre for Family Literacy in Alberta, Canada. With the help for Centre for Family Literacy staff/program trainers, LWB was able to bring this program to Belize City, Belize.

“Rhymes That Bind (RTB) is an oral language development program that promotes positive parenting. Parents learn to enjoy rhymes, finger plays, songs and simple movement games with their infants and toddlers in a supportive peer group.” (Centre for Family Literacy website)

The critical development period for a child’s brain is from 0 to 36 months. During the early months of this period, it is critical for oral language development, and for literacy development that a strong bond is developed between the mother and the child.

RTB promotes this strong bonding and oral language development through the use of maternal language rhymes and stories.

LWB funds a new 10 week RTB program for mothers, fathers, and their infants in Belize. The language and literacy skills of parents, as well as parenting skills, are also greatly enhanced through this critical oral language development program.
